If you receive Medicare healthcare coverage in the state of Maryland because you are age 65 or older, have a disability, or any other qualifying medical condition, you are also eligible to receive Maryland’s Supplemental Medical Insurance. Medicare is a federally funded program that offers health services that are free of charge to those who qualify. Although this medical coverage is free, all medical services rendered and most prescriptions are not be covered under this plan. As a result, you may be responsible for any and all costs of services that exceeds the scope of medicare.

In order to assist with medical bills that are not covered by Medicare, supplemental insurance coverage may apply. Medigap insurance is private insurance that can be purchased by any individual who receives medicare. The Maryland Medicare Supplemental Insurance program, also known as medigap, is a private insurance policy that covers the voids or gaps in Medicare coverage. Some benefits covered by Maryland Medicare Supplemental Insurance may be the cost of medical visits, deductibles, and excess payments that may not be covered by Medicare.

In turn, Maryland’s Medicare Supplement plan covers some or all services that are not covered under Plan A and Plan B.
